Recycling Details: Saving our World, One Item at a Time

We want a sustainable world, and the first step to achieving that is through recycling. We have two key recycling programs established in our county to help achieve that goal: BluCan Curbside Recycling and Binnie Recycling. Please do not place your items to be recycled in bags—they should be placed in the bins as separate items. Placing items that we cannot recycle only increases our costs to process the materials. Thank you for being diligent in recycling what the markets will allow.

Convenient For You, Good For The Earth

We’ll pick up your BluCan from your curbside, and our binnies are open 24/7 in several locations close to you, so you never have to go far to recycle.

Blucan Curbside Program

BluCans is a great service you can use for recycling everyday household items. Learn more about our BluCan Curbside Program here

Binnie Recycling Program

Residents can deposit their recyclables into over 20 designated “binnie” sites throughout the county. Binnies have separate containers to accept glass, paper, plastic, and metal.

What Plastics Can I Recycle in the Blucan or Binnies?

One of the easiest ways to determine whether plastic belongs in the recycling container or trash can is by using something we like to call the “Poke Test.”  If you can push your finger through it, then the plastic is too soft to be recycled. Flimsy plastic gets tangled in the sorting machinery, causing expensive damage and extensive delays. So even if it says it’s recyclable, things like water bottle wraps, grocery bags and bubble wrap all require special handing. You can usually take these items to the grocery store to be recycled.

Essentially all plastic bottles, jugs and containers are eligible for curbside recycling, as long as you follow the rule of empty, clean, and dry. Be sure to rinse off any residual food and shake off the water before you place these items in your recycling container. If you want to recycle lids, make sure they’re attached, as they’re too small to get recycled alone. Finally, make sure your plastic isn’t mixed with another material, and if it is, separate them before you recycle them.

 Binnie Locations

All Binnie locations have paper, plastic, and metal recycling bins. All locations have a glass bin except for Diamond Valley, Pine Valley, and Utah Tech University.
